California Science Center Endeavour exhibit opening
Overview
The California Science Center is preparing to open the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a 200,000-square-foot expansion at Exposition Park, on November 13. The new facility will feature over 100 aerospace artifacts and 100 hands-on exhibits across three multilevel galleries: the Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery, the Korean Air Aviation Gallery, and the Kent Kresa Space Gallery.
The centerpiece of the expansion is the Space Shuttle Endeavour, which will be displayed in a vertical “go for launch” position. The shuttle will be mated to two solid rocket boosters and ET-94, the last remaining flight-qualified external fuel tank, allowing visitors to view details such as engines and thermal tiles from a unique perspective.
Reservations for the new center became available to museum members on October 19, with general public reservations opening on October 21. While general admission to the California Science Center is free, a $4 reservation service fee per person applies for access to the new facility.
