Cameroon infrastructure and development initiatives
Overview
Cameroon has undertaken several large-scale infrastructure and development projects involving international financial institutions.
In early October, President Paul Biya authorized two loan agreements totaling approximately $629.8 million to upgrade regional trade infrastructure. This includes a €347.5 million loan from the World Bank to fund the Douala-Bangui Economic Corridor, a 1,400-kilometer route critical for the Central African Republic’s trade. Additionally, a €212.4 million agreement with the Islamic Development Bank was authorized to rehabilitate the Douala-Bafoussam highway.
Later in the month, the government focused on agricultural and local development. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development launched a mission with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to evaluate the PAIDATA project, which targets sustainable agricultural intensification. Concurrently, in Bafoussam, officials met with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to discuss the SPORCAP project, focusing on the management and maintenance frameworks for upcoming local sports infrastructure.
