Canadian animal welfare kitten adoption initiatives

Overview

During National Adoption Week in October 2026, various animal welfare organizations in Canada launched initiatives to promote kitten adoption through partnerships with PetSmart.

Abby Cat Daddy announced a series of community fundraising and adoption events across Sumas, Surrey Boardwalk, and Chilliwack. These activities included kitten yoga, a ‘Kitten Kraft and Paint’ session, and information sessions scheduled between October 21 and October 25.

Concurrently, the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee (IBKC) launched an adoption drive from October 19 to 25, bringing adoptable kittens to PetSmart locations in Uptown and Duncan. IBKC president Sharon Rubin stated that while the charity completed over 400 adoptions this year, they remain at capacity due to an influx of owner surrenders, unexpected litters, and sick or injured kittens.
