Canadian RCMP text‑message scam alerts

In early July, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Fort Saskatchewan issued a public alert about a scam involving text messages that falsely claimed to be related to an Alberta vehicle‑registry matter. The warning urged residents not to respond or click any links.

Later in the month, the Saskatchewan RCMP announced a similar fraud scheme targeting motorists with texts that pretended to be from the Provincial Court, demanding payment of an alleged traffic citation. The messages used a “+21” area code and were reported in several communities, including Carnduff, Indian Head, Saskatoon and Regina. Police again advised the public to block the number, avoid clicking links, and report the incident to their local detachment or the Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre.

Both alerts underscore a coordinated effort by scammers to exploit official‑looking communications across Alberta and Saskatchewan, prompting the RCMP to repeatedly caution Canadians against responding to such fraudulent texts.
