In July, the Red Deer RCMP conducted a traffic safety operation that issued 175 tickets, including speeding and seat‑belt violations, and delivered public‑education presentations. Simultaneously, Saskatchewan RCMP officers carried out a three‑day blitz in the Regina Beach area, performing 950 mandatory alcohol screenings and 25 drug tests, leading to 23 impaired‑driving removals, two criminal charges, and numerous tickets and warnings.

Later, police from Saskatoon and Regina clarified the province’s cellphone‑use rules while driving. Officers explained that only visible engagement with a phone—such as looking at a vibrating or ringing device—constitutes an illegal distraction, while merely having a phone on the seat or a lit screen does not. The guidance highlighted the contribution of distracted driving to serious collisions and advised drivers to use dedicated navigation devices or alternative methods.

Together, these actions show a continued provincial focus on traffic safety, moving from intensive ticketing and screening operations to targeted public education on distracted‑driving regulations.
