In Gran Canaria, temperatures were projected to potentially exceed 37°C in various mid-altitude regions. High nighttime temperatures between 25°C and 28°C were expected to hinder thermal recovery. As of September 6, the heatwave has intensified, with the Canary Islands facing “intense tropical-like heat” and temperatures expected to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius. This extreme weather has triggered an expanded forest fire risk alert, which now includes La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, in addition to Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Recent reports confirm that temperatures have reached 40 degrees Celsius in Maspalomas and nearly 40 degrees in Lanzarote.
