Cancambria Energy has revised the estimated value of its Kiskunhalas tight-gas project in Hungary upward. Following an independent resource assessment, the project’s net present value increased by 16 percent, rising from 1.762 billion USD to 2.04 billion USD. The valuation utilizes a conservative long-term TTF gas price assumption of 12 USD per MMBtu, which remains below current market spot prices. The company attributed the valuation increase to the asset’s sensitivity to European gas price fluctuations, which are being driven by geopolitical uncertainty, tightening supply, and energy security concerns. While resource estimates remain unchanged at 571.9 billion cubic feet of gas and 59.6 million barrels of condensate equivalent, the company has provided a timeline for operations. Cancambria expects to commence first gas production in mid-2027, with full field development scheduled for 2028. Market conditions in Europe have contributed to increased volatility and supply concerns. EU gas storage levels have reached approximately 62%, which is notably lower than historical averages, with German storage levels dropping to roughly 50%. Geopolitical tensions, including the conflict in the Middle East and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, have driven TTF gas hub prices higher, with October contracts trading around 19 USD/MMBtu. These constraints, alongside the decoupling from Russian gas and competition for LNG from Asian markets, continue to exert upward pressure on energy costs.
