Cancer research fundraising through swimming in the NL
Overview
The Groningen Swim Challenge, now in its twelfth edition, held a recent event featuring hundreds of participants swimming various distances to benefit the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).
The initiative has raised more than 192,000 euros to date. These funds are allocated toward seven research projects and studies focusing on thyroid, lymphatic, breast, and uterine cancers, as well as the acquisition of two devices intended to improve tumor mapping during surgical procedures.
Competition categories included the Junior Swim, the Classic Swim, and the City Swim, which offered distances ranging from 1 to 8 kilometers. The event also featured extreme challenges, such as a 50-kilometer open-water relay swim from Lauwersoog to the Oosterhaven in Groningen.
