The 2026 bullfighting season continues to show signs of a potential resurgence, marked by high attendance and significant individual triumphs across Spain and Mexico. In Arganda del Rey, the Vid de Oro and Vid de Plata awards recognized outstanding performances. Mexican novillero López Ortega won the Vid de Oro after earning three ears, while Manuel León secured the Vid de Plata. In Murcia, the Feria Taurina saw Emilio de Justo, Borja Jiménez, and Marco Pérez carried out on shoulders, while rejoneador Andy Cartagena achieved a major triumph by cutting three ears and a tail. In Seville, the Feria de San Miguel saw contrasting results. Pablo Aguado achieved a historic triumph, opening the Puerta del Príncipe after cutting three ears. However, the fair's conclusion was widely criticized as a “general collapse” due to the poor quality of Garcigrande bulls, which hindered matadors such as Morante de la Puebla, Daniel Luque, and Borja Jiménez. Later, the Tertulia Taurina Los 13 named Julio Norte as the most outstanding ‘novillero’ of the season. Other regional highlights include Isaías López’s victory in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and successes in Écija and Algemesí. In Zaragoza, the Feria del Pilar saw Iker Fernández ‘El Mene’ take his professional alternative, though livestock quality remained inconsistent. ~~Looking ahead, Teruel has announced~~ As the season progresses, scheduled events include Tomás Rufo’s final 2026 engagement in Arenas de San Pedro on October 17, and the opening of the 2026-2027 season in Mérida, Mexico, on October 25 featuring Sebastián Castella. In Teruel, a special event is set for November 1 to honor Pepe Vicente Lapuente. The junior circuits are also concluding, with Pablo Sánchez winning the Provincial Circuit of Novilladas sin Picadores in Granada, and the National League of Novilladas holding its grand final in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
