Carlos Alcaraz professional schedule and commentary

Tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has recently addressed both his professional scheduling and his personal interests. In September, Alcaraz expressed frustration with the performance of Real Madrid and defended his decision to compete in the Laver Cup over the Davis Cup, a choice his former coach suggested was a strategic move to manage workload and recovery.

By October, following a victory at the Shanghai Masters, Alcaraz shifted his focus to criticizing the ATP tour schedule. He argued that the density of the professional calendar is “going in the wrong direction,” citing the high frequency of player injuries and the physical pressure placed on athletes as significant risks to long-term health. During his opening match at the Shanghai Masters, where he defeated Juan Manuel Cerúndolo 6-3, 6-3, Alcaraz intensified his criticism of the professional calendar. He stated, “They are pushing us beyond the limits,” linking the frequency of competition to player injuries, including his own four-month injury layoff earlier in 2026 and the recent situation involving Jannik Sinner.

While his comments on player welfare have gained support, they have also faced skepticism from figures such as John McEnroe, who suggested that modern players may require better rest management rather than fundamental scheduling changes.

In addition to his advocacy for player welfare, Alcaraz drew attention during the Shanghai tournament for sporting a moustache, a look resulting from a bet with his coaching team following a title win in Tokyo. He noted that the change in appearance and his choice of clothing, such as a basketball-style top, were intended to boost his on-court confidence. His 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cerúndolo marked his seventh consecutive win following his recent title in Tokyo, with Alcaraz noting that playing more aggressively helped him adapt to the fast indoor conditions in Shanghai.
