Cat survival and death following Venezuela earthquake

Overview

Following an earthquake on June 24, a cat named Félix was rescued alive from the rubble of the Bahia Mar residential complex in Caraballeda, Venezuela, after being trapped for 49 days. The animal was found in a severely dehydrated and weakened state and was placed under veterinary care.

Despite rescue efforts, Félix later died due to respiratory arrest caused by the extreme physical and dehydration stress accumulated during the entrapment, according to veterinarian Dianny D’Amelio.
