Catalan municipal election preparations

Political activity is increasing in Catalonia ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, with parties beginning to define their candidates and platforms.

In Cerdanyola del Vallès, Esquerra Republicana (ERC) has advocated for improvements to urban mobility, specifically proposing the extension of the CV5 bus line to better connect the Technological Park and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Concurrently, Comuns Cerdanyola has named Santi Cayuela as its mayoral candidate, focusing on ecological and feminist projects. Local rail services on the R7 line have also seen a partial resumption of connections to the UAB.

In Barcelona, the electoral landscape is also forming. The CUP has selected Laure Vega, aiming to merge independence movements with social issues like housing. Incumbent Mayor Jaume Collboni of the PSC faces the challenge of balancing left-wing policies, such as banning tourist apartments, with moderate stances. Meanwhile, Aliança Catalana has shown growth in polls, and pro-independence parties like ERC and Junts continue to debate different strategic approaches to regional politics.
