Catania Fiera dei Morti venue selection and commencement

The 2026 Fiera dei Morti in Catania has undergone venue changes following logistical and safety assessments. Initially, the municipal government considered relocating the event from the Nesima Cittadella dello Sport parking lot to the ‘Porta delle Farfalle’ area in Librino due to concerns regarding infrastructure, traffic management, and setup time. Ultimately, the city finalized the location as the San Giuseppe La Rena district, specifically on via Amerigo Vespucci. The decision, recommended by Councilor for Productive Activities Giuseppe Musumeci, aims to address public safety and organizational needs for approximately 150 exhibitors. Mayor Enrico Trantino noted the importance of balancing the festival's scale with local citizen needs and public security, particularly given the increased traffic at Fontanarossa Airport during the holiday period. The festival is scheduled to run from approximately October 24 to November 2, featuring artisanal products, food, and recreational activities. Following the finalization of the San Giuseppe La Rena site, the event officially commenced with an inauguration on Sunday, October 25. To manage the expected influx of visitors, the municipality has implemented a special traffic management plan involving significant road closures and transit restrictions on via Amerigo Vespucci and via Forcile. Exceptions to these restrictions are granted for residents, emergency services, and individuals with disabilities. Operating hours are set from 9:00 to 24:00 on holidays and pre-holidays, and from 9:00 to 22:30 on weekdays.
