Cathay Group operational growth and investment

The Cathay Group has reported strong operational performance and significant growth in both passenger and cargo sectors. In August 2026, the group’s passenger airlines, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, carried over 3.6 million passengers, a 4% year-on-year increase. Cathay Cargo also experienced a 9% rise in volume, transporting more than 150,000 tonnes, driven by demand for semiconductor shipments in Asia and pharmaceutical products from Europe and mainland China.

Following these performance metrics, the group has received several industry accolades, including Cathay Cargo being named ‘Cargo Operator of the Year’ at the Air Transport World 2027 awards. Cathay Pacific was also ranked among the top three airlines globally at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2026.

To sustain this momentum, the Cathay Group has committed approximately HK$150 billion toward fleet expansion, digital innovation, and facility upgrades. This investment includes plans to modernize the freighter fleet with eight Airbus A350F aircraft and adding a leased Airbus A330 converted freighter for regional and mainland Chinese routes.
