A wave of multi-vehicle collisions and fatal accidents has persisted across Brazil from June through August 2026. The period began with a significant tragedy on June 15 in Ceará, where a bus carrying an under-19 basketball team from Juazeiro do Norte overturned on the CE-187, killing seven athletes and injuring over 30 passengers. In early July, Ceará saw another fatal bus accident when a vehicle carrying pilgrims overturned on the CE-456 near Canindé, resulting in two deaths and at least 21 injuries. Throughout July, a spate of accidents across various states was reported, including a high-speed collision in Mato Grosso that killed a 4-year-old, and numerous fatal crashes involving trucks, motorcycles, and buses in Paraná, Minas Gerais, and Goiás. Fatalities continued into August with several high-casualty incidents. August. In Goiás, a major collision on the GO-010 involving a truck, a bus, and two cars killed seven people, including an infant. Other accidents were reported in Acre, Paraná, and São Paulo.
