CEMAC financial services expansion
Overview
Financial services in the CEMAC zone are undergoing expansion through both localized microfinance initiatives and broader regional integration.
In the Republic of Congo, the Caisse Congolaise d’Épargne et de Crédit (CCEC) launched its first round of microfinance loan disbursements in the Bouemba district. Supported by the Fondation Cœur Angélique, the program utilizes a decentralized approach across four geographic axes to reach remote areas, aiming to promote financial inclusion and empower local populations.
Concurrently, regional financial institutions are leveraging a new single licensing regime to expand their footprints. Cameroonian CCA-Bank has secured authorization to open a branch in Brazzaville, with plans to target Chad, the Central African Republic, and Gabon. Additionally, Gabonese microfinance firm Bamboo EMF announced intentions to enter the Cameroonian market by June 2027, seeking to raise CFAF 5 billion through a bond issue to fund lending and digital payment services.
