The comedy film ‘Santidad’, directed by Rodolfo Espinoza and filmed in the Cusco region, has faced blocks to its commercial release in Cusco, Peru. Producers and the director have denounced the move as censorship, alleging that the Archdiocese of Cusco invoked a specific clause in its contract with the shopping center to prevent the screening. The film uses satire to explore themes of faith, morality, and the exercise of power through a character depicting a local archbishop.

Director Rodolfo Espinoza clarified that the film is not an attack on the Church as an institution, stating, “I deeply respect believers and those who have faith in the symbols of the Church,” but rather a critique of the exercise of power.
