Central African regional security cooperation

Overview

INTERPOL President Lucas Philippe conducted a working visit to Cameroon from October 18 to 21, 2026, to strengthen police cooperation against terrorism, cybercrime, and transnational organized crime. During the visit, Philippe met with Cameroonian officials to discuss the country’s role as a strategic hub for regional security coordination.

Following this, police leaders from Central Africa convened in Yaoundé for the 6th session of the Council of Chiefs of Police. During the session, the President of the CEMAC Commission, Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, and INTERPOL President Lucas Philippe discussed the difficulties of securing porous borders while maintaining free movement. The CEMAC Commission is seeking technical assistance from INTERPOL to improve border infrastructure, such as biometric passport readers, and to enhance training and equipment for border police across its six member states.
