In Slovakia, parliamentary election polling remains highly competitive between Progresívne Slovensko (PS) and Smer-SD. While previous data showed a near-deadlock, recent August 2026 polls have fluctuated; a SANEP poll placed Smer-SD at 19.2% and PS at 18.5%, while an Ipsos survey showed PS leading with 18.1% to Smer's 17.9%. An AKO agency poll for TV JOJ 24 indicated PS leading with 21% (39 seats), followed by Smer-SD at 17.7% (33 seats) and Republika at 9.8% (18 seats). Despite these shifts, the political landscape remains volatile. A SCIO poll showed Smer-SD leading PS for the first time since March 2024, though the margin was statistically insignificant. Conversely, an NMS Market Research poll in early September indicated PS would lead with 21.6%, while Republika rose significantly to 15.6%. By mid-October, a Focus agency poll showed PS narrowly leading Smer with 17.4% to 17%. Recent data from late September shows a tight race, with Prime Minister Robert Fico leading in leadership trust at 39%, followed by Milan Uhrík of Republika at 37% and Michal Šimečka of PS at 36%. As the October 24 regional elections approached, political maneuvering intensified. In the Žilina region, SNS MP Adam Lučanský withdrew his candidacy to support Smer-SD’s Igor Choma to avoid fragmentation. In Košice, Hlas-SD candidate Igor Šimko secured support from Republika, Smer-SD, and SNS. Following the regional elections, preliminary results indicate setbacks for the ruling coalition. While Smer and Hlas retained some governorships, they failed to expand influence. In Bratislava, incumbent Matúš Vallo secured a decisive victory with approximately 64% of the vote, defeating the government-backed Jozef Ráž. The Smer party also faced losses in municipalities including Bardejov, Námestovo, Veľký Krtíš, and Zvolen. In the immediate aftermath of the elections, Progressive Slovakia (PS) has struggled to translate its influence beyond Bratislava.
