Central European lake cleanup initiatives

Overview

Volunteer divers and local organizations in Central Europe are conducting lake cleanup operations to protect aquatic ecosystems and habitats.

In late September, initiatives were reported in Germany and Austria. In Germany, organizations such as Unterwasserparcours e. V. and TG Sepia organized cleaning events at Salzgittersee to maintain water quality and underwater landscapes. In Austria, water rescue services collaborated with the Austrian Federal Forests to remove debris, including tires and tarps, from Ossiacher See.

By mid-October, a large-scale ecological cleanup was conducted at the Savica lakes in Zagreb, Croatia. Divers from the Adriaticro Zagreb Diving Club removed approximately 800 kilograms of waste. This operation specifically targeted discarded fishing lines to protect local swan populations and focused on maintaining oxygen levels and water circulation within the interconnected lake system.
