Central Java pesantren scholarship program

Overview

The Central Java Provincial Government initiated the 2026 Santri and Pesantren Caretaker Scholarship Program, known as ‘Program Pesantren Obah’. The program, a flagship initiative of Governor Ahmad Luthfi and Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen, aimed to provide educational opportunities for Islamic boarding school students and caretakers who might otherwise be excluded from existing scholarship schemes.

Following an application and interview process involving 942 applicants, the government awarded Rp8.34 billion in grants to 73 recipients for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies. The scholarship distribution includes 15 students pursuing education abroad in China, Egypt, and Yemen, while others are enrolled in domestic universities.

Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen highlighted the importance of integrating STEM fields with Islamic values, encouraging students to master modern technology and artificial intelligence to serve their communities in sectors such as medicine and agriculture.
