The 2026 Central Java Regional Student Sports Week (Popda Jateng) commenced with 7,515 student athletes representing 35 regencies and cities. The multi-day event, hosted across Semarang, Kendal, and Pati, covers 23 sports disciplines and 522 contested events. Governor Ahmad Luthfi noted the competition is intended to identify talent for the 2027 National Student Sports Week (Popnas). As the competition progressed, Kendal Regency hosted the cycling disciplines. This segment of the event included 307 athletes competing in road bike, mountain bike (MTB), and BMX Racing across various categories such as criterium, individual road race, and individual time trial. Competitions were held at the Kendal Criterium Circuit and the Kendal BMX Circuit. Following the conclusion of the competition, Jepara Regency secured fifth place in the overall standings, earning a total of 25 gold, 16 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Karate was a notable discipline for Jepara, which earned nine gold medals and the title of “karate general champion.” Officials attributed this performance to long-term training and participation in competitions since late 2025. In basketball, the Surakarta men’s team won the gold medal by defeating Semarang with a final score of 59-47 at the Sahabat Arena Semarang. This victory was cited as a result of the city’s ongoing athlete development programs.
