In Salerno, specialists at the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona hospital performed an endovascular embolization on a 77-year-old patient to treat four aneurysms discovered incidentally. Dr. Daniele Romano, Director of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, characterized the simultaneous treatment of four aneurysms as an “exceptional event”. Further reports from the Ruggi d'Aragona hospital highlight the facility's capacity for high-complexity procedures. In addition to the neurological work led by Dr. Romano, a cardiac surgery team led by Professor Enrico Coscioni successfully performed a triple coronary bypass and a TAVI aortic valve replacement while the patient’s heart was still beating. This specific cardiac intervention was required due to severe aortic stenosis and a rare condition known as ‘porcelain aorta’, where heavy calcification increases stroke risks during traditional surgery.
