Cervical cancer prevention and screening in Mexico

Overview

In Mexico, health authorities have focused on promoting cervical cancer prevention and expanding screening access. In Colima, the state government organized public events and informative modules to encourage early detection and vaccination, with Health Secretary Víctor Manuel Torrero Enríquez noting the disease is “curable if detected in time”.

In Baja California, the Ministry of Health has expanded free screening services throughout August for women aged 25 to 64. These services, which include Papanicolaou and cervical cytology, are being delivered via health centers and mobile ‘Health Caravans’ to reach vulnerable communities. As of 2026, health personnel in the state have conducted over 7,800 tests.
