Chaco security operations and property recovery

Overview

The Chaco Ministry of Security has implemented several initiatives to enhance public safety and increase the presence of security forces. In mid-October, Security Minister Hugo Matkovich oversaw preventive operations by the Chaco Police and Provincial Penitentiary Service during the Ibero-American Book Fair. During this period, Matkovich reported that the Chaco Police force had grown from 7,100 to over 8,200 personnel, with ongoing recruitment for additional officers and penitentiary staff.

By late October, the ministry launched ‘Operativo Caminante’ in Resistencia. Ordered by Governor Leandro Zdero and coordinated by Matkovich, this initiative utilizes 460 police and penitentiary trainees to patrol high-traffic areas such as plazas, green spaces, and kindergartens. While the operation began in the capital’s microcenter, it is intended to expand throughout the province to provide trainees with field experience and strengthen crime prevention.

On October 25, the provincial government regained possession of a six-hectare property in Resistencia, spanning six blocks along San Martín Avenue. The site had previously been ceded to a foundation linked to Emerenciano Sena under the previous administration. The recovery operation was coordinated by Minister Matkovich and Territorial Development Undersecretary Alicia Ogara, supported by the Chaco Police and the Center for Analysis, Command, and Control (Ce.A.C.). Officials stated the intervention aligns with Governor Zdero’s policy to review the status of state-owned real estate and ensure public assets are managed to meet community needs.
