Chad mining sector development

In late July 2026 Algeria announced a bilateral partnership to share its mining expertise with Chad, pledging institutional exchanges, training programmes for Chadian engineers and joint exploration projects. The agreement followed recent high‑level talks that also covered energy, transport and security cooperation.

Within days, Chad moved forward on its own mining agenda. The National Society for Mining Exploitation and Control (SONEMIC) validated a National Reference Framework to formalise and regulate artisanal mining, aiming to improve transparency, responsibility and sustainability while integrating small‑scale operators into the formal economy. Simultaneously, SONEMIC launched the second phase of a nationwide aerial‑geophysical survey to map deep geological structures and identify a range of minerals, including precious and critical rare‑earth elements. Both initiatives are tied to Chad’s “ChadConnexion2030” development plan and seek to attract investment and position Chad as a recognized mining nation by 2030.
