The German broadcaster ZDF is undergoing changes to its political satire programming. Satirist Jan Böhmermann will conclude his show, ‘ZDF Magazin Royale’, on December 18, 2026, after 187 episodes. The end of this format is expected to impact approximately 80 employees at the production company, with only a few positions expected to remain in 2027. While it will tackle political and social issues, it will not immediately occupy Böhmermann’s Friday late-night time slot. Ahead of the conclusion of ‘ZDF Magazin Royale’, the team is releasing a new half-hour satire titled ‘ZDF Magazin vor Ort’, scheduled to premiere on the ZDF streaming portal on September 25. Featuring Caro Worbs as reporter Joana Giesswein, the program parodies the nostalgia and rituals of traditional German Saturday night variety shows.
