Chemical leaks in Jalisco

Overview

A chemical leak involving nitric acid on the Guadalajara-Chapala highway triggered an atmospheric alert in the Jalisco municipalities of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos and Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. The incident involved a three-ton truck carrying several containers of nitric and sulfuric acid.

Emergency services, including the Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development (Semadet), responded to the leak. The alert specifically affected areas near the San Jorge and Prologis Arrayanes industrial parks, as well as the La Puerta del Muerto neighborhood. Authorities moved the vehicle to a secure, unpopulated area and performed sanitation work at the site. The highway has since reopened, and no injuries were reported.
