Chemical tanker spills on European highways

Later that month, a separate incident occurred on Italy’s A2 highway near Pizzo Ovest, where a hydrochloric‑acid tanker leaked. Fire crews and a regional NBCR unit sealed the spill area, transferred the remaining load, and conducted decontamination, but kept the highway open to traffic. Together, the two events illustrate how European emergency services respond to hazardous‑material leaks on major roads, balancing public safety with the maintenance of traffic flow.
