Chevron energy activities in Angola
Overview
Chevron has reported a significant oil and gas condensate discovery in the Lower Congo Basin offshore Angola. The discovery at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0 revealed a hydrocarbon column exceeding 2,000 feet, with the company describing the reservoir quality as “excellent.” Chevron, which holds a 39.2% operating interest in the block, is evaluating whether the find can be developed using existing nearby infrastructure.
In a separate development regarding its Angolan assets, Chevron’s subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, has agreed to sell stakes in offshore Blocks 14 and 14K to Etu Energias. The deal involves Etu Energias acquiring a 31% working interest in Block 14 and a 15.5% interest in Block 14K for a base cash consideration of $260 million, with potential contingent payments totaling up to $250 million through 2038. Etu Energias intends to assume operatorship of Block 14 upon regulatory approval.
