Chhattisgarh women's welfare scheme implementation
Overview
The Chhattisgarh government has continued the implementation of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a welfare scheme providing monthly assistance of 1,000 rupees to eligible women via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
In late August, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the 30th installment of the scheme, bringing the total amount transferred to over 19,444.33 crore rupees. Beneficiaries have utilized these funds for household needs, education, and small self-employment ventures.
By early September, the Chief Minister reported that the government had transferred 31 installments, totaling more than 30,000 crore rupees over the previous two and a half years. Beyond the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, the administration is highlighting other initiatives such as providing gas cylinders in women’s names and supporting programs like ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and ‘Drone Didis’ to foster economic self-reliance, particularly in the Bastar region.
As of September 6, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reiterated that women are gaining financial independence through these schemes, noting the cumulative impact of the transfers to beneficiaries' accounts.
