Chicago police misconduct allegations
Overview
The Chicago Police Department has faced scrutiny regarding officer conduct and accountability following several documented incidents.
In one instance, a content creator reported being followed to her home by an officer who claimed he was not required to provide a justification for his actions, stating, “Because I can.”
Additionally, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) investigated an incident involving Officer Oscar Furlan. A review of body-camera footage determined that Furlan and two colleagues conducted an unlawful stop and search of two students in the Jackson Park neighborhood. The investigation concluded the stop lacked justification, and following the search, Furlan reportedly insulted the pedestrians by stating they were stopped because they were “ugly as f---.”
