Chihuahua teacher employment protests

In Chihuahua, graduates and educators have initiated protests regarding the scarcity of permanent teaching positions in basic education. Demonstrators, including graduates from the Ricardo Flores Magón Rural Normal School, have blocked streets in the capital to demand more permanent job vacancies, alleging that the government is underreporting available roles.

The Secretary of Education and Sport (SEyD) attributed the shortage of permanent positions to a decline in student enrollment, noting a reduction of over 47,000 students between the 2025-2026 and current cycles. This demographic shift has led to a higher proportion of temporary roles. For the current admission process, officials reported that only a small fraction of applicants for preschool and primary levels would receive permanent placements.

The unrest has spread to Ciudad Juárez, where teachers and parents are protesting staff shortages. Protesters argue that temporary assignments fail to guarantee educational continuity. Local officials noted that some teachers have refused to work due to their temporary status, while USICAMM liaisons clarified that teacher assignment procedures are centralized in the state capital rather than managed locally.
