Shizuoka police located the father near the eighth station, roughly three hours away from the child. Officers ordered the man to abandon his climb and return to the child. Authorities used the incident to issue a stern warning, stating, “Even if it means having to give up on climbing the mountain together, leaving a child behind is unacceptable.” Mount Fuji attracts approximately 200,000 climbers annually and has seen several recent climbing-related incidents and rescues. Police officials have urged hikers to adjust their pace to the capabilities of all group members to prevent such occurrences and avoid risks like hypothermia.
