In Spartanburg County, 35-year-old Taylor Gosnell was arrested following an attack on her six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter. Investigators allege Gosnell used a circular knife and a baseball bat to inflict approximately 50 stab wounds on the children. Reports indicate the six-year-old boy, who sustained deep lacerations and may require limb amputation, attempted to protect his younger sister during the attack. The children were discovered after the boy managed to call for help. Gosnell, who was previously out on bond for a 2024 charge of placing a child at risk, has had her bond denied.

In a separate incident in Charleston County, 31-year-old Justine Marie May faces homicide by child abuse charges. Two toddlers, aged 33 months and 15 months, died from starvation and dehydration. May reportedly claimed she was in a ‘blur’ and could not recall the last time she had fed the children. Authorities noted that 13 welfare checks had been conducted at the residence since August 10 without any signs of concern being observed.
