Child exploitation and trafficking in Mozambique

Overview

Mozambican police have conducted several operations in Nampula province to combat child exploitation and trafficking. Over a three-month period, authorities rescued at least 38 children and detained six suspects.

Recent interventions include an incident at the Namina railway station where police intercepted two men attempting to transport 11 minors toward Cuamba. Investigations indicated the children were being recruited for agricultural labor in the Mandimba district. This follows other successful operations by the Mozambique Republic Police (PRM) involving the rescue of 20 minors in Malema and seven children in Nampula city.
