Child labour and trafficking rescue operations in India

Overview

Between June and August 2026, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) conducted a Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign. This initiative resulted in the rescue of more than 3,800 children from labour, human trafficking, and exploitation. During this period, authorities filed over 575 official police reports against those employing minors. The campaign focused on rehabilitation, including compensation and reintegrating children into the education system.

Following these national efforts, specific regional operations continued to target child labour and trafficking. In Karnataka, a statewide crackdown involving police and labour inspectors led to the rescue of approximately 800 children after inspecting nearly 17,000 premises. In Uttar Pradesh, a joint operation by the Crime Intelligence Bureau and the Railway Protection Force rescued 12 children from suspected traffickers on a train. These children were reportedly being transported to work in a rice mill.
