The restriction affects vehicle circulation from the “El Médano” sector up to the international border. The prolonged closure of the Los Libertadores pass, which lasted 34 days due to heavy snow, has prompted calls for improved trans-Andean logistics. In the Araucanía region, the CChC Araucanía is advocating for the strengthening of the Pino Hachado pass as a more resilient alternative. Additionally, officials in the Coquimbo region are proposing a $330 million investment to pave 44 kilometers of road at the Agua Negra pass to ensure more reliable transit.
