Chilean celebrity relationship controversy

Overview

The controversy involving Gala Caldirola, Luis ‘Mago’ Jiménez, and Coté López has evolved following Caldirola’s claims of infidelity and alleged ‘illegal acts’. During a broadcast of ‘Primer Plano’, Caldirola detailed seeing provocative messages from López to Jiménez, which triggered social media mockery of the former footballer. In the wake of these revelations, presenter Fran García-Huidobro reported an encounter at an airport with López and her mother, María Merino. López was scheduled to provide her version of events in an exclusive, non-compensated interview in the Dominican Republic to ‘speak her truth’.

In that interview, López expressed deep regret, stating, ‘I feel very bad, very repentant,’ and claimed her actions were driven by anger toward Jiménez rather than an intent to harm Caldirola. Public reaction to her interview has been mixed, with some questioning her sincerity. Meanwhile, Caldirola has been seen wearing her engagement ring from Jiménez, sparking speculation about a potential reconciliation.

New allegations emerged via ‘Plan Perfecto’, where Caldirola accused López of harassing the wife of a professional footballer—reportedly Argentine player Jonathan Benítez—to link her to a marital separation. Caldirola claimed López made constant, harassing calls to the partner to incite claims that the marriage ended because of Caldirola.

Luis Jiménez, currently an assistant coach for Al Wakrah in Qatar, has since addressed the situation in a televised interview on Chilevisión’s ‘Primer Plano’. While expressing regret for his actions and describing Caldirola as a ‘perfect partner’, Jiménez stated there is currently ‘no possibility’ of reconciling with her, characterizing the interview as a necessary step for public closure. During this emotional appearance, Jiménez expressed shame and noted he owed explanations to Caldirola and her family. However, host Fran García-Huidobro criticized Jiménez for being evasive regarding specific allegations, including claims regarding substances, describing the interview experience as ‘exhausting’ and ‘a brick’.
