Chilean industrial and regulatory development

Overview

The Chilean Chamber of Deputies approved a reform to the mining patent regime to reduce economic burdens for small and medium-sized producers. The reform replaces progressive patent fees with a fixed rate and postpones 2026 patent payments to 2027. While the National Mining Society (SONAMI) acknowledged the cost relief, the organization warned that the reform does not fully address structural issues regarding legal certainty for mining concessions.

In subsequent regional developments, industry leaders called for enhanced local integration and clearer regulatory frameworks. At the ProMinería ASIVA 2026 event, SONAMI president Jorge Riesco emphasized connecting local providers to the mining industry to support new investments. Simultaneously, SalmonChile representatives highlighted the socio-economic impact of salmon farming in the Los Lagos Region, with president Patricio Melero calling on the State to provide regulatory certainty and agile management to ensure continued sector development.
