Chilean infrastructure and energy investment developments

Overview

Chile is advancing several large-scale infrastructure and energy projects through regulatory approvals and new tenders.

In late August 2026, the Chilean Committee of Ministers ratified environmental permits for two major investments totaling approximately US$ 5.8 billion. These include the US$ 5 billion Aguas Marítimas de Cramsa desalination project in Antofagasta, despite appeals regarding indigenous community impacts and marine sediment effects, and an US$ 811 million railway extension by EFE Trenes de Chile connecting Valparaíso, Quillota, and La Calera.

By early September 2026, the focus shifted toward electrical infrastructure. The National Electric Coordinator opened technical bids for 19 transmission expansion projects valued at over US$ 500 million. These projects, which include the development of new substations and lines to enhance energy transport between the Maule and Ñuble regions and improve supply in the O’Higgins Region, received 48 technical offers. Economic bids for these electrical works are expected to be opened in November 2026.
