Chilean authorities have introduced several social benefit programs and refund processes, including rent subsidies for seniors and people with disabilities, and Fonasa social security refunds. Recent focus has also included the ‘Chile Sale Adelante’ gas coupon program and the ‘Tarjeta Banco de Materiales’ for female heads of household. Regarding future fiscal planning, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) has announced a 5.8% increase in its 2027 budget, totaling approximately 4.8 trillion pesos. While Minister Iván Poduje initially requested a 23.9% increase, the final proposal reflects government fiscal tightening. This budget includes a significant 626.6% increase in investment for urban areas through the Transient Emergency Fund (FET), and plans to finance the first year of 166,233 new housing subsidies. However, several key programs face substantial funding reductions. The Precarious Settlements program is set to decrease by 48.5%, dropping from 25,953 million pesos in 2026 to 13,356 million pesos in 2027. Additionally, rental subsidies are projected to fall by 17.1%, and loans for middle and emerging sectors are expected to decrease by 25.6%. In terms of recent subsidy results, Minvu released outcomes for the first national call of 2026 for the DS1 Middle Sector Subsidy. Of the 56,956 applicants, 6,943 individuals were selected to acquire homes or build on their own land. The majority of these selected families (95.6%) intend to use the benefit for home acquisition. Expanding on material assistance, Minvu has announced the second phase of the ‘Tarjeta Banco de Materiales 2.0’ program. This initiative will provide 20,000 subsidies nationwide for low-complexity home repairs via gift cards for materials. Applications are scheduled from November 9 to December 9, 2026, with results expected in February 2027.
