Chilean authorities have introduced and promoted several social benefit programs and refund processes. In late August, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism announced a rent subsidy for individuals over 60 or those with disabilities, covering up to 90% of monthly rent. Concurrently, Fonasa established a September 6 deadline for the refund of excess social security contributions, involving approximately 6.19 billion pesos for over 70,000 contributors and employers. By early September, the focus shifted to the ‘Chile Sale Adelante’ plan, with officials urging citizens to redeem the ‘Cupón de Gas’ (Gas Coupon) to offset fuel costs. While hundreds of thousands of families in Valparaíso have utilized the support, significant numbers of households in the Atacama and Ñuble regions have yet to claim the $27,000 CLP benefit before the September 30 deadline. Other active supports include the ‘Bono por Hijo’, ‘Subsidio Familiar’ (SUF), and various maternal subsidies. Expanding housing support, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) opened applications on September 10 for the ‘Tarjeta Banco de Materiales’ (Material Bank Card) subsidy. This program targets 25,000 female heads of household to assist with low-complexity home repairs. Applications are available online until October 9, 2026. The subsidy, delivered via a digital card for use at partnered hardware stores, provides varying amounts for specific tasks: approximately 25 UF for roof repairs, 15 UF for bathroom improvements, and up to 40 UF for perimeter fencing or gate installation. Eligible applicants must be Chilean or permanent residents over 18, homeowners within the 70% to 100% Social Household Registry brackets, and possess an active ClaveÚnica.
