Chile continues to expand its water security and infrastructure initiatives through targeted funding and regional coordination. As part of broader Latin American efforts to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon, the Aysén River Basin maintains coordination through its strategic water resource table to ensure water security amidst regional climate challenges. Building on previous funding announcements, the National Irrigation Commission (CNR) has launched a second small-scale agriculture competition. This program has allocated 1,550 million pesos to fund projects involving irrigation technology, wells, and pumping systems. The competition, which closes on October 15, is open to individual applicants, including both INDAP users and non-users who meet specific income and property size criteria. Agriculture official Rodrigo Bahamonde stated that this financing aligns with presidential and ministerial guidelines regarding water security for the benefit of farmers nationwide. Expanding these efforts, the CNR recently held a technical seminar in Río Bueno to detail a new national competition for ‘Nature-Based Solutions (SbN)’ (N° 24-2026). This initiative provides 300 million pesos in bonuses under the Irrigation Law to fund projects such as biofactories, fog catchers, soil conservation, and natural aquifer recharge. These measures are intended to enhance water security and climate change adaptation. Applications for this program must be submitted digitally via the institution’s Electronic Application System (SEP) between October 30 and December 3, 2026.
