However, the country faces infrastructure challenges. In the first half of 2026, renewable energy curtailment—the wasting of solar and wind power due to grid limitations—reached approximately 360 terawatt-hours. This represents a 49% year-on-year increase, resulting in wasted energy equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of Mexico.
