China is preparing to host the 33rd APEC Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen, scheduled for November 18–19. During the forum, participants announced the ‘Shenzhen Consensus’, which emphasizes openness, innovation, and cooperation to promote regional development. The consensus addressed regional connectivity, industrial supply chain stability, and the opportunities presented by digital, intelligent, and green transformations. Discussions also highlighted the necessity of safeguarding the multilateral trading system. Media professionals specifically addressed the impact of artificial intelligence, noting that AI can serve as a tool to assist journalists with routine tasks rather than replacing the human element of reporting. In the energy sector, China Southern Power Grid highlighted its role in regional interconnection, noting the construction of 17 high-voltage power channels with Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. The company emphasized efforts toward building a ‘Power Bay Area’ and promoting clean energy through cross-border cooperation. Further preparatory efforts included the 32nd APEC Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM 32) in Guangzhou, which centered on digital transformation to bolster SME resilience. ~~As Shenzhen prepares for the summit, the city’s economic integration remains significant; in the first half of 2026, trade between Shenzhen and APEC economies reached 1.98 trillion yuan.~~
