Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is conducting a diplomatic tour of South Korea and Indonesia between January 19 and 22. In Indonesia. During his two-day official visit to South Korea, Korea from August 19 to 20, Wang Yi’s visit—his Yi is scheduled to meet with President Lee Jae-myung at the Blue House to convey a message from President Xi Jinping. This visit marks the first solo trip by a top Chinese diplomat to the country in approximately five years—includes meetings years. Wang is also set to hold talks with Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, President Lee Jae-myung, Hyun and National Security Advisor Wi Seong-rak. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional stability, security, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula. A significant point of interest is whether the talks will address President Lee’s proposal for ‘multilateral dialogue for ‘multiparty discussions on aimed at formally ending the termination of 1950-53 Korean War and replacing the war.’ current armistice with a permanent peace regime.’ This visit occurs amid shifting regional dynamics, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce joint military exercises with South Korea. Following the South Korean leg of the tour, Wang Yi will travel to Indonesia to preside over the first meeting of the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue mechanism. He will also participate in the second ministerial-level 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministers' meeting alongside Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun.
