Overview

China’s South-to-North Water Diversion Project has reached significant operational milestones. Initially, the middle route was reported to have transferred 80 billion cubic meters of water over nearly 12 years, benefiting approximately 118 million people across 27 cities in Henan, Hebei, Tianjin, and Beijing. Following this, reports indicated that the first phase of the project, encompassing both the eastern and central routes, has surpassed a transfer milestone of 90 billion cubic meters. This expanded scope has provided a stable water supply to 48 major cities, benefiting an estimated 195 million people while continuing to support the ecological restoration of more than 50 rivers.
