Christopher Bell and NASCAR Chase format changes

NASCAR driver Christopher Bell has expressed support for the sport’s revamped 10-race Chase points format, which is scheduled to debut in 2026. Bell, who participated in a driver committee advocating for the replacement of the previous elimination-style playoffs, noted that the new single-system structure will allow for a more deserving champion by enabling race winners to regain points more effectively.

As the season progresses, Bell has utilized the emphasis on consistent performance under the restructured system to remain a championship contender. Despite a 30-race winless streak, he has secured four second-place finishes in his last five Cup Series races, tying a 1981 record for most runner-up finishes in a season without a victory.

While Bell currently ranks sixth in the points standings, he faces upcoming technical challenges, including the loss of pit selection and the ejection of his car chief following failed pre-race inspections. These developments follow his recovery from a broken wrist sustained during a crash in June.
