Chubut carbon economy and climate action summit

Overview

The Province of Chubut held its inaugural summit, ‘Carbono Chubut: Valorizando los Servicios Ecosistémicos de la Patagonia’, in Rawson. The event was a joint initiative between the Chubut Government and the Provincial Legislature to foster dialogue between the state and the productive sector regarding the carbon economy and climate action.

The summit featured eight panels covering topics such as Andean forest restoration, sustainable management of grasslands, blue carbon, renewable energies, green hydrogen, and sustainable development financing.

At the conclusion of the congress, Governor Ignacio Torres promoted a provincial strategy centered on decarbonization and the valuation of Patagonian ecosystem services. Torres stated that climate change presents an opportunity for competitiveness through carbon credits and soil carbon sequestration. The strategy includes forest restoration, fire prevention, and renewable energy promotion, alongside fiscal incentives for families and companies to commercialize surplus renewable energy.
