Turkey is hosting various cinematic events and academic gatherings focused on both regional identity and international acclaim. In November 2026, Istanbul is set to host the first International Turkic World Korkut Ata Cinema Symposium. This event, supported Supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, this event aims to establish academic foundations for researching Turkic cinematic identity and discusses identity, discussing topics ranging from film history to artificial intelligence. In Complementing these academic efforts, the 6th Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival will take place in Istanbul from November 3 to 7. Announced by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the festival is organized by the General Directorate of Cinema in collaboration with the International Cinema Association. It brings together filmmakers from Turkic republics and states associated with the Organization of Turkic States. This year, the festival introduces a Short Film Competition to support young, independent filmmakers. Participants will compete for the ‘Turna Kuşu Award’ across three categories: fiction feature, documentary, and short film. Additionally, in October 2026, major film festivals such as Filmekimi and MUBI FEST are scheduled to showcase award-winning international cinema across cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Mersin. These festivals feature acclaimed works from the Cannes Film Festival, including films by Cristian Mungiu and Paweł Pawlikowski.
